As UHR Chair Naina Patel of the University of the Arts, London write in issue 8 of Perspective:

'I was recently back in my hometown of Leicester for the Diwali celebrations. The city hosts one of the biggest celebrations outside of Asia, and the festival lights bring a smile to large areas of the city. With some funding from – amongst others – the local authority and universities, these morph into Christmas lights which continue to lift the spirits for many weeks. Given that Leicester was one of the epicentres of Covid for many months during the first summer of the pandemic those of us with a fondness for the city can reasonably think it has come through the worst, and sadly while every city and town has its boarded-up shops and down-at-heel malls, Leicester gave the impression of recovering well. I should shift focus before you start to think I am on a retainer from the tourist board.'
