The Awards Showcase is a window onto the projects that won, or were runners up, in the 2024 UHR awards. Each session will focus on one award category and bring together the individuals who led and delivered the projects. Presenters will give a quick overview of their projects before having a facilitated conversation about the opportunities and challenges the activity brought about. The audience will get the opportunity to engage directly with the presenters to ask any questions.
WINNERS - Northumbria University: Journey to a Values-Driven Culture
Northumbria has undergone a significant cultural transformation, prioritising engagement and the intentional efforts of leaders and colleagues. Over 100 volunteers collaboratively developed the new Values and Behaviours Framework, addressing cultural strengths, areas for improvement, and future suggestions. The university has witnessed substantial momentum in the adoption of these values, influencing decision-making and everyday practices. For instance performance management processes now encourage reflection on demonstrating values and behaviours, complemented by a new inhouse 360-degree feedback tool. Values and behaviours have been embedded into recruitment, induction, and flexible working policies, as further examples.
RUNNERS-UP - University of Derby (TBC): Evolving HR Towards People Experience and Culture
The University of Derby has evolved the HR function over the past five years to support a broader, more modern, more strategic approach to HR. HR has evolved from being known and seen as administrators or the ‘policy police’, into business partners and enablers of organisation-wide change and improvement. To mark the evolution, they have changed the name of the function to People Experience and Culture. They are: Expanding reach and Influence strategically and tactically. Promoting employee advocacy through a positive people experience. Positioning People Experience and Culture as a transformation partner for the wider organisation.
