UHR Connects is a series of regional, in-person, one-day development events that will enable HR staff at all levels* to connect face-to-face, at low cost and at a venue a little closer to home. Each day will include presentations from HE sector experts sharing best practice and relevant research topics, as well as insight from UHR colleagues, and lots of opportunities for networking and discussion. If you’re missing the in-person aspect of our UHR annual conference, and budgets and time away from the desk are a challenge, this is the ideal way to connect with HR staff in other HEIs, learn from and with each other, and build your networks as a resource for the future.
All members are welcome to attend any of the events - you do not have to be based in that particular area. The events have been designed to reduce the need for accommodation, however if you require accommodation you will need to organise this yourself.
*All members are welcome to join this event but it may be helpful to know that the content and activities of the day are designed for established practitioners or mid-level managers. Although job titles vary greatly across the sector, this would typically include Senior Advisor/Officer, Business Partner or Head of Function. For Senior HR leaders, such as CPOs, HRDs and Deputies (or equivalent), we would invite you to book a place at our Senior HR Summit.
PROGRAMME
Emma Ogden, Consultant, SUMS Consulting - HEPI Report: working in and beyond HE
SUMS Consultant, Emma Ogden, explores the findings of a SUMS study, commissioned on behalf of HEPI, to analyse the range of financial and non-financial benefits for academic staff in the sector.
It is recommended that delegates who have booked a place at one of our UHR Connect events get a basic understanding of the SUMS study, commissioned on behalf of HEPI. The best way to do this is to book onto the SUMS/UHR webinar on 13th March (10-11) or at least watch the session recording; the delivery at UHR Connects will build on this webinar content to dig deeper into the insights and enable discussion on what this means for your institution.
Jane Byford, Partner and Head of HE, VWV - Employment Law Update
Jane will take us through the key developments in 2022 and what to expect in 2023.
Professor Zoe Radnor, Incoming Pro Vice Chancellor and Executive Dean of Business and Social Sciences (27/03/2023), Aston University
The Three C’s: Change, Culture and Capability
Louise Nicholls, Senior Manager, Global Mobility, Vialto Partners - Global Mobility: the risks of doing nothing
Louise will help you understand as a HR function, what you need to think about when you have university employees working outside the UK and why.
Gary Butterfield, Co-Founder and Executive Director, Everyday Juice Ltd and Rob Baker, Founder & Chief Positive Deviant, Tailored Thinking
Creating better conversations about work and wellbeing: Rob (Tailored Thinking) and Gary (Everyday Juice Limited) will be delivering this interactive session exploring different models and approaches for better conversations around wellbeing and personalising work.
During lunch, Gary and Rob will also be running their purpose driven card game and movement ‘We’re Not Really Strangers’ – all about empowering meaningful connections. Three carefully crafted levels of questions and wildcards that allow you to deepen your existing relationships and create new ones.
Emma Brookes and Sophie Crouchman, UHR Strategic Projects and Research Managers
Blueprint for Success: using data and insights to tackle HE’s biggest people challenges
Recruitment, retention, engagement – we know that these are some of the biggest issues that institutions are facing. Emma & Sophie from UHR will discuss these challenges, and more, in this highly interactive session. Working in small groups, they will use a framework that promotes critical thinking and helps you develop the skills to create effective strategies, underpinned by analysis and evidence.
Processing Invoices
Due to the cost of processing invoices, we strongly prefer delegates to pay by credit card. If you are unable to pay by credit card, please proceed with the booking and on the final stage of booking there will be an additional button ‘pay by invoice’ as well as the usual button to 'pay online'. Please click on the pay by invoice button and enter the purchase order number you would like to be used for this invoice and then complete the booking. Please use Professional HE Services Ltd as the supplier. Our accounts team will be notified of your invoice request and will supply you with an invoice to pay. If you do not provide a PO number we will not be able to process and confirm your booking.
If you do intend to pay by card, please have it ready when you start the booking process as choices cannot be saved and bookings are not complete until payment has been processed.
