BUFDG Job Retention Scheme document update

07 May 2020      Julia Ascott, Employment Taxes Specialist

Updates have been made to the BUFDG document on the Job Retention Scheme following changes to HMRC's guidance documents and Government announcements, as follows:

  • Page 6 - Updated overview following the Chancellor's admission that the JRS would be wound down from July but wouldn't leave employers 'on a cliff edge'.
  • Page 13 - includes examples of researcher situations re: funding and unable to work.  We review the processes you should follow and how to apply the Department for Education's 'guiding principle' on public v non-public funding
  • Page 39 - there is an update to section on what duties employees can undertake whilst on furlough - specifically in the case of union or non-union representatives - these duties should preclude eligibility under the JRS
  • Page 51 - includes a link to HMRCs JRS calculator

I would have let you all know via the discussion boards, but none of the JRS boards are working at the moment, which you may have noticed if you've tried to post anything (developers are looking into).  If you have any questions about JRS or anything you would like to share - try to open a different board (that didn't work for me, but may work for you!!) or email me.
