The UHR office is in Loughborough, but some of the staff are based all over the country.
Helen Scott – Executive Director
Helen has worked in higher education since 1991, and moving from Oxford to be HR Director at Sussex. She has been working for UHR since 2004, and works with the Executive Committee to lead the organisation. So if you want to get involved, have an idea, or are a new HR Director, then be sure to get in touch.
UHR is a special interest organisation of Professional HE Services Ltd. PHES is an umbrella company for membership organisations in higher education including BUFDG, AUDE and HESPA. The PHES section of the website explains the reasons for joining PHES and how the relationship works. Being part of PHES means that UHR can call on the skills and expertise of the following members of the central services team:
Dominic Fryer - Operations Director
Dominic's job covers a multitude of tasks. A Modern Languages graduate of the University of Southampton, Dominic keeps us all on the straight and narrow and makes sure that PHES and the member associations are giving the best value to our members. He also looks after our digital work. Click here to send him an email.
Gill Birch – Events Manager
Gill has worked in the admin side of the HE sector for over 20 years, firstly at the University of Wolverhampton and then as PA to the Director of Finance at the University of Wales, Lampeter (now part of UWTSD). She has been working for BUFDG since 2001 helping to arrange training and events across the sector and took over the UHR events when we became part of PHES.
On leaving school Gill trained and qualified as a Registered General Nurse. She also holds a Certificate in Accounting from The Open University.
If you need any information about schedules or venues, or have any suggestions for suitable training, then please let her know.
Karen Newcombe - Financial Operations Manager
Karen joined the PHES team towards the end of 2017 and is doing a great job of keeping our finances in order. Karen worked in the finance team at Loughborough University for 13 years, so has a great understanding of how the sector works. She manages the finances for UHR alongside the other associations in PHES and as well as processing the day to day transactions, she also works with the respective treasurers to plan for the future. If you need to contact Karen, please drop her an email.
